“As all sized organizations seek to do more with less, technology investments can be a valuable way to make existing staff more productive,” says Rebecca Wettemann, Vice President of Nucleus Research. Introducing Intelligent Automation (IA) or Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to leverage “software robots” to reduce tasks performed by humans is one solution many organizations consider. Take this example from the Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD).
Like many medical centers, all patient records were kept as paper files until the government passed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that mandated all records be converted to an electronic health record (EHR) system. After implementing the EHR, MHCD found themselves with a mixture of half paper and half electronic files. The combination system was very taxing on the staff and finding patient records had become increasingly difficult. They needed a solution that would combine the two systems and remove the manual human labor out of the mix.
After considering different options, MHCD decided to work with Imagetek, a Digitech Systems reseller to move to an entirely digital system. They chose PaperVision® Capture to digitize their existing paper records and PaperVision® Enterprise, an on-premise Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system, to put its software robots to work and haven’t looked back since. “It takes so much less time now that the system routes and files patient files automatically for us. We would never go back to the way we did things before. Our goal is to never touch paper again,” said Mary Peelen, Director of Health Information Services.
